It all started with Ensto. The son of an entrepreneur from Vyborg, Ensio Miettinen founded a company manufacturing electrical accessories in Porvoo in 1958. Miettinen had an inexhaustible thirst for knowledge and the need to do things better and faster than others. He headed abroad to learn new things and was able to anticipate customers’ needs. Thanks to his product development focus, he was able to continuously introduce new products which no other company was manufacturing. Miettinen realised at a very early stage that it is wiser to sell systems rather than individual products. As early as the beginning of the 1970s, the company began expanding abroad, first to Sweden.
At the turn of the century, the family business was transferred to a new generation. In 2001, Ensio Miettinen’s industrial holdings were transferred to the new EM Group which today owns several industrial enterprises and real estates. The EM Group is owned by Miettinen’s descendants, Mr Timo Miettinen, Ms Marjo Miettinen, Ms Anu Miettinen and Ms Taru Kokkomäki.
Family entrepreneurship is important for the Miettinen family. EM Group's corporate culture is characterised by respect for people and the willingness to provide information openly. In this way, the company can increase its trust capital. Interest in the family business has spread to the third generation, further enhancing the enthusiastic company spirit. The Miettinen family has strong personalities, but its family ties are also strong.
In its business operations, the EM Group is looking a long way ahead. Its industrial subsidiaries are selling electricity- and building-related technology which has excellent growth prospects throughout the world. In the future, EM Group is seeking to further increase its international approach by acquiring new industrial businesses and real estates.
